Charred Lines I

One of a kind functional sculpture/bud vase.

Charred Line is a series of four small functional sculptures exploring the relationship between repetition, texture and fire.

Each piece is turned from Douglas fir, I let the charring do all the work here, carving across its surface with a rhythmic field of vertical lines, and finished with a charred surface that deepens the natural color and emphasizes the carved texture.

At only 2” thick, the form has an almost relief-like quality while remaining functional as a bud vase, with a small opening designed for a single stem.

Each piece is individually made and one of one.
